There is one exercise that does more for how a person handles money than any amount of advice: watching where every franc goes for a single week. Not forever. One week.
What it reveals tends to stay revealed, because most spending happens on autopilot. The big expenses get attention. The small, constant ones slip past unrecorded, which is exactly where the surprises hide.
The method is simple
For seven days, every time money leaves, by cash or by phone, it gets noted: amount, and what it was for. No cutting back yet, no judgement. The first week is only for seeing. Done by hand this is tedious, which is why most people quit by day three. Pebla records and sorts each spend on its own, reading your mobile money messages on Android, which is what turns a one-week experiment into a habit that survives, but the exercise works with a notebook too. The point is to do it at all.
Days one and two: the awkward part
At first it is easy to forget. A payment happens and gets remembered an hour later. That is normal, and the act of trying to remember is already building an awareness of money moving that was not there before.
Days three to five: the uncomfortable truths
A specific number persuades. This is where it gets specific. Patterns appear that were easy to ignore in the abstract: the daily small spend that, totalled, is larger than transport; the repeated top-up that did not feel like much each time. Most people hit at least one moment of genuine surprise here, and a number is far more persuasive than any general warning.
Days six and seven: the quiet shift
Awareness alone changes behaviour. By the end of the week, something changes without being forced. There is a small pause before a spend, not from guilt, but because the running total is now visible in the mind. No rule was set, and the spending already looks different.
That is the entire value of the exercise. It makes the invisible visible long enough that the seeing does the work.
Seven days of watching teaches more than a year of intentions. Pebla keeps that visibility going automatically, so the awareness stays without the effort of tracking by hand.
